UNICEF and the Kenya Ministry of Health utilize Community Health Workers (CHWs) to serve the basic health needs of remote, rural catchments in counties like Turkana, Isiolo, Mandera, and West Pokot (among others). CHWs are locally recruited and trained to deliver a range of services following Integrated Community Case Management (iCCM) protocols.
While many of these CHWs have low literacy and numeracy skills, consistent service delivery can be facilitated through the use of paper-based tools tailored to their use case. Design Health collaborated with UNICEF and the Kenya Ministry of Health to re-design essential CHW tools to minimize errors while facilitating faster, more efficient treatment per-child.
